By the image, it looks as though I should have small cables running all the way down the sock… but I have kind of wonky, bumpy lines on the outside of my sock and some small cables on the inside but they seem to end, or start, in a mish-mash of stitches where it looks like the knits and purls of each round haven’t matched up.
I believe I’m doing the right number of stitches as I always end on the right stitch in each round… but I don’t know what I’m doing wrong!
This is the first time I’ve worked with double pointed needles and was finding the process quite easy… apparently the pattern doesn’t agree.
Does anyone have any suggestions before I give up?
It sounds like you might be working on the inside of the sock instead of the outside, at least for part of your problem.
The two needles that you’re working with should be closest to you and the other needles away from you, so that the ‘right side’ stitches are on the outside of the tube.
As for the other situation, it appears from what I can see in the picture that the cables aren’t just straight down the sock, but interspersed with other stitches, so you may be doing it right, but all on the inside of the sock.
If you turn them now and continue you’ll have worked part of the pattern inside and part of the pattern outside, maybe. I think you need to finish as you started or start over, whichever works.
