I think this one might seem silly to some, but I’ll ask anyway.
I’m working on Paton’s Textured Afghan…it’s gorgeous! It’s done in strips, and for some reason I really haven’t figured out, it adds and subtracts stitches between “blocks”.
i.e., The block of “trinity stitch” (my Mom used to call this the “popcorn stitch”) has 38 stitches and is worked for 30 rows.
…The block between the trinity blocks is made up of strips (three regular knitting and two “seed stitch”). This block has only 29 stitches!
The pattern just says, “…knit dec 9 sts evenly across. 29 sts.” from trinity block to strip block. Then the pattern says, “…purl inc 9 sts evenly across. 38 sts.” from strip block back to trinity block. (This sounds simple, doesn’t it? But for a mathematician like myself, this is a daunting task! I DID finally figure something out that sort of works, but it really has no rhyme nor reason. LOL)
NOW FOR MY QUESTION:
I had no problem with the “knit dec” (I just knitted 2 together)…but now it’s time for the “purl inc”!
Can I purl twice in the same stitch(?), OR must I purl 1 and then knit 1 in the same stitch for the increase(?), OR should I purl in the front and then purl (or knit?) in the back of one stitch? My mind seems totally “blocked” about how to do this increase!
Thank you for your patience…
Barbara
