Ok - It did't come out quite right

I am working on a pair of fingerless gloves (without the 1/2 fingers also).
THe pattern is seemingly simple - just garter stitch from wrist to knuckles. It knits long ways-not around your hand. So when you get to the end of the pattern there is a seam down the long side of you hand. I learned a lot (this is my second project ever). Question:

When I finished where the pattern says I should have 28 rows…there was NO way this fit around my hand, or my daughter with the tiny hand. So I added some rows and one 1/2 row til I got it to the point I could finish it. (Oh I need to add the gauge was right)

Is this ok? Adding the rows did not lose any form or shape.

Second question:

How can I avoid this in the next set of gloves I want to knit? I was making this for myself, but with it being so small, I have to give it away to my daughter. I know I need to increase to the next size on the chart (7) but would it help to have a smaller needle size? a bigger needle size?

You could knit with a larger needle size, but it might be too long, or you could just knit to fit like you did.

And what are you counting as a row? The ridges or both the ridges and dips in between? In garter stitch, each ridge is 2 rows. And did your pattern say 28 rows or 28 ridges…?

Oh - good point. It said 28 ridges, and I had 28 ridges. I added an additional 4 ridges and one 1/2 row.
