I posted awhile back about how knitting lace sucks. Someone gave me the link to info about using a lifeline, and now I love it! I’m totally addicted to lifelines. I’m using them in everything. I hate trying to reinsert needles, especially in circular knitting, and lifelines are so much better!
I’m about 1/3 of the way through a lace scarf, and I’m through with the first repeat of the 2nd chart of the Adamas shawl, which I’m really enjoying. It’s like the lifeline has removed all the pressure! I’m also doing my first fingering weight socks (I’ve done mostly baby socks in worsted weight) in a semi lacy pattern and they’re so fun to knit (I use a lifeline every 8 rows on those too). I started a lace stole in worsted weight the other day, and it feels so HEAVY, I’ve gotten so into the lace-weight projects I’m working on. Ha!
Congrats to you!! These forums have given me the confidence and helpful tips to really get into knitting. Isn’t lace fun? When you go back to worsted it feels like you’re knitting with rope. Enjoy!
What is a lifeline? Can you point me in the right direction so I can learn about it? I have making lace on the back burner and if a lifeline is helpful then I need to know what it is. THANK YOU!
A life line is a piece of yarn or floss or I’ve even heard of people using fishing line that you thread through a row of your work after you have worked it and it makes it so that if you mess up and have to frog you have a row that ready. Just mark where you put the life line so you can start from there again.
If you are using interchangables you can also run it across your cable part and in the holes (the ones that you use the tool to tighten them) and just knit and it will just knit onto your lifeline.

I’m going to try this! I’m knitting my first lace shawl and I dropped a few stitches…could not for the life of me figure out how to fix it and ended up pulling the whole thing out :doh: (I hadn’t got too far).
I always shied away from lace too, but I am working on The February Lady Sweater (on Ravelry) and there is a lot of lace in the sweater. I have really enjoyed it… the pattern is only a 7 stitch repeat but it has been so much fun to knit and I love the way it is turning out. I just finished the main part of the sweater and started the first sleeve last night. It has been so much fun, that I even went back through my patterns to find a lace scarf to do next!

I thought you might like to see this article on blocking lace. It’s very good and has great pictures. No matter how much we love the knitting of projects, it comes time eventually to do the finishing part! Anything that makes that easier is Okey-Dokey with me!
