I was debating whether or not I should announce this here just because of the nature of it, but, I’m publishing a book!! It’s a book of some of the poems I have written throughout the years, I got my copy today and I’m aiming for the end of next week to make it available to the public. The poems though are very somber and definitely not for everyone as they were written during some of my most difficult struggles…Poetry is a coping mechanism for me so my writing is filled with emotion and most of it is rather grim. But, I am super happy and excited about it, I’ve always told myself one day I’d have some of my poetry published and that time is FINALLY just about here!!! :woot:
OK, I Have To Say It
How exciting! Good for you!
Awesome work!!! :woohoo: :cheering: :happydance: :woot: :yay: :yay: cloud9 :woot:
BTW, you and I have the same favorite quote.
Good for you! That’s an awesome accomplishment!
Congratulations on your accomplishment.
Sara. That’s a big step, sharing your poetry with all. Congratulations on your published work. That’s wonderful!!
Poetry is such a personal expression of self and I think it can be a terrifying experience to expose such deep angst publicly. My best wishes for a successful publication.
You’re braver than I
Jean
I think you are awesome that you can write poetry. I love to read it, but I don’t have the talent to write poetry well. I love to write other stuff though, and my fav classes are Literature, of all kinds. Congrats, and best wishes!
Yeah, the day I got my copy, before it arrived in the mail, I was having huge regrets, wondering why I ever thought it was a good idea to publish such personal writings and convincing myself I would have to explain myself but once I held the book in my hands, all that fear subsided…Though I pretty much know the poems by heart I think I was making them out to be a whole lot worse than they are…Don’t get me wrong, they’re definitely somber and some of them quite aggressive but I’m happy about my book…I know it’s not going to be for everyone but ah well…lol
You going to give us a small sample? Would really like to know what style and meter you like to use in your poems.
Jean
I know you probably know it, but I have to say it out loud, you never have to explain yourself - poetry should be written and read from the heart. Just because you wrote it from your heart, doesn’t mean my heart will perceive the same thing. That’s the beauty of it - everyone can interpret it their own way. It’s like a painting, we all see it differently in our own mind, and may see it differently every time we look at or read it. I also feel, most true poetry readers/lovers will appreciate you and your work, regardless of how somber. Anything you write or do in life for that matter, will have people that complain and knock it down. Those are the ones you ignore, unless it’s constructive criticism and they are trying to help you better yourself. Ok off my lecturing high horse. We all know these things, but sometimes we need a reminder!
I do have a blog (another one…haha) for my book and I also now have an author account on Goodreads, I just may post a sample or two on Goodreads!
I think this is totally awesome! Don’t ever feel like you have to explain yourself. Congrats on the book! If possible do you plan on sharing any samples?
I love Goodreads, although I don’t post as an author. I use it to keep track of what I’ve read, what I want to read, and get fresh ideas.
Sara, What’s your ‘handle’ on goodreads. How do I find you or a title to your book? Would love to check it out.
Jean
You should be able to find it under its title: Melancholia and Other Destinations
