Oh boy.... dying and yarn

I guess this forum is meant for spinning, but I see several dying topics so I’ll ask here.

How would you dye yarn so it was self striping? Do you have to measure it? I wouldn’t know how long to make each section!

Most people seem to dye wool and I would probably give WOTA a try for practice, but can you dye other yarns? A cotton blend or whatever? I’m not a huge fan of WOTA for anything other than felting.

You can dye cotton, but not with kool-aid. Plant fiberse need to be dyed with fiber-reactive dyes, if I recall correctly, and that’s a little more involved.

Funny you can’t dye cotton with koolaid…considering it stains it just fine when you DON’T want it to!
