Not sure how to proceed

This pattern is really messing with my head. I’m working on the back piece of thispattern.

The instructions are to “Work as for back, but bind off center 33 sts for neck when work measures 56 (58) cm (22 1/4 [23] inches) from beg. In the 2nd foll row, bind off 2 sts at neck edge, once more.”

I think it’s safe to assume that it means to say “work as for front,” which I’ve been doing, but now I’m to the point in the front pattern where you bind off the center stitch.

My understanding of it tells me that instead of binding off the center stitch, I should now only pay attention to the instructions I’ve pasted above, continuing on in the basic pattern until the work measures 22 1/4 inches from the beginning. Then I bind off 33 center stitches, and in the next row, I bind off another 2 stitches on either side of the neck edge. And that’s all it says.

I’ve got all these extra stitches and no knowledge of what to do with them. (59 stitches on the needle, minus 33 in the bind-off, minus 4 in the following row, equals 22 stitches left over).

Any ideas?

You guys have been my saving grace with this pattern. Thank you, in advance, for any help you can give me on this part. :aww:

Well, if I had to make a guess, I think you need to bind off the remaining stitches the way you did the front shoulder shaping so they match up.

With 11 stitches on each side

work the right side: at shoulder edge, in every other row, bind off 4 sts 1x, and 3 sts 1x, 4 sts 1x).

Do the same for the left side.

You have 11 sts on each shoulder so bind them off the same as you did for the front piece.

Wow…that seems incredibly obvious now that you guys told me that. Sorry if that was a stupid question…

I guess I’m just ready for it to not make sense!

It’s not a stupid question, sometimes things don’t seem obvious when you’re doing them the first time.
