Even though the fear of being cast aside and run out of KH with torches is intense, I just had to come out with it. I think gulp I lost my desire knit! I don’t know why, I just have. I feverishly worked two days straight to get that dog sweater done and now I just don’t have the energy or interest to pick my needles back up and start again. Maybe I just need a break, pray that’s all it is! Gasp! And my stitch and bitch group is tomorrow night. Maybe they won’t notice if I casually set down a project and finish the night with coffee and conversation. I’ll be the laughing stock of the group if anyone finds out my deep, dark secret.
Not for those faint of heart
Ok, 18 views and no comments. I’m being shunned, black listed. My days at KH are numbered.
Funny :roflhard: you should bring this up,after trying to learn to knit two socks on two circulars I feel the same way. You’re probably just burnt out like you said.I’m taking a day off from knitting. You went for 2 days straight? No wonder you’re burnt out. 48 hour of knitting would do that to anyone  Hang in there and after your stitch and bitch you’ll probably run to your nearest yarn store
You probably just have knitters block :wall: Hope this helps

:fingerwag: Don’t be silly!
I don’t think it matters what your hobby, there are times when you just need a break. So take one, but come in here and see what people are knitting and read some posts. Before long you’ll find you just have to give something a try and you’ll be back to knittin’!

Oh, Jessica, I just had a “Young Frankenstein” flash!
Now, do not be silly! I cannot speak for anyone else but… I have done this before. I worked forever on a stunning throw for a college graduation gift for a very dear friend. I had known this child since she was 12 yrs old and her going to college was huge - never mind graduating with honors! I was so proud of that work and waited anxiously for some response and… nothing. For MONTHS I heard nothing. At that point, I put away my needles and packed all of my yarn stash into my cedar chest. I was hurt and angry and feeling like, “why bother”. It took a while but one day… I was ready to knit again.
It’s OK to take a break! Plus… let’s be honest here, burning torches and knitting do not go together! Do you honestly think anyone here would risk their WIP? Now pitchforks are a different story but I wouldn’t worry too much about the torches!
Just relax! Angela
I have felt that same way very recently but now I am going crazy again with two wip’s and more yarn on the way for socks now my dillema is I just bought The Knitters Bible and I can’t wait to try every thing!!
Being a newbie knitter, I cannot possibly understand how you feel. I have a ton of projects lined up, and I practically drool as I look at everything everyone has done here. The thought has crossed my mind, however, that some day I might not knit EVERY day. Maybe I’ll cross stitch something or maybe I’ll try something new or maybe, just maybe, I will not do anything at all. (gasp) Just about a week ago, I went 5 whole days without knitting. I was trying DPN (with only 2 stitches on each needle and using 5 needles) for the first time. I got frustrated and just could not bring myself to try again. Five days later I picked up my knitting and everything worked out really well! I’m way past the 5 DPN crisis now!
Anyway, I hope you work through your funk, no matter what the outcome.
That has happned to me too! I was knitting pairs of socks one right after the other :XX: :XX: :XX: then I was DONE with knitting  for two whole days!! Now I’m right back into it again. I think a “break” is needed at times. Your normal!! :roflhard:
:roflhard: :roflhard: :roflhard:
Seriously, it’s happened to me, too. And I agree with the others: it sounds like you just need a break, that’s all.
Go to your SnB group, of course, and who knows–you may get inspired! If not, that’s okay, too. The yearning will return!
Well, it WAS 12:22 am when you posted that! There have been literally years between my knitting binges. This one is different, though, because I have much more of an interest in learning more about different yarns and techniques and such. It seems to fill an need in me. Will it change? Anything’s possible.
Don’t feel guilty or ‘wrong’ because you don’t feel like knitting! It’s knitting, for goodness sake!
Hey I wouldn’t even worry about the pitchforks! Before you know it, someone will figure out how to string yarn from them and then there will be a thread on “Cool things you can knit with pitchforks” and the pitchfork carriers will be too busy to come after you
Seriously, we all get burned out, especially after a knitting marathon. Relax, the yarn will call to you again, never fear!
Yes! I went 7 years (yes; SEVEN YEARS) without knitting because I didn’t find the creativity in it. A few years ago I started seeing some really cool alternative knitting things. Not your basic sweaters and afghans and I started venturing into not following the pattern - allowing my creative side to take over the yarn and needles. Now I can’t imagine not knitting as I am forever finding new things that interest me. Perhaps it isn’t the knitting that has lost its spark but what you are knitting.
I am a newbie knitter also, so I haven’t had a time yet where I have not wanted to knit. But I do agree, you probably just need a break.
Knitting isn’t my only hobby ~ I also love to draw & work on computer graphics, two things I love to do but I am not currently working on either of them because I need a break from it.
I think that knitting is also a creative hobby, if your creative side isn’t in it, then it’s hard to work with it.
I am in a bit of a knitting lull right now- I went through a time when I was knitting every spare moment that I had- but now, I’m not quite as inspired. I think that stress plays a big part of it for me- although I find knitting relaxing, when I have a lot on my mind I find that I don’t have the patience to sit down and concentrate on anything- and I’m going through a particularly stressful time at the moment. I have a fish that I started knitting for my son ages ago, and I haven’t picked it up in days and days. I’m also knitting a hat for him, which should only take a couple of hours- once I sit down and do it!! I’m sure that you will find yourself ready to knit again in time. Maybe browsing patterns and yarns for some small, somewhat instant-gratification projects would be fun. No pressure!!
Every artist has to take some down time away from their craft.
Burn out is a big problem in any artistic discipline.
Ever wonder why artists (sculpters and painters) turn out “series” of works? Its because they can safely worth within the confines of one idea without feeling unproductive.
Taking a break is really a good idea if your craft just isnt sparkeling for you. Fresh eyes, fresh ideas and perspective can only serve to improve your work in the long run.
Dont get bogged down in feeling bad about not knitting - that will only make you feel worse and keep you stuck in no-knit land.
Enjoy your break! How about trying something new that supports knitting? Ever want to learn to spin or dye your own wool? Trying these out while you wait for your knitting inspiration to come back just might stimulate you in ways that following the same old patterns never could.
I had a 20 year hiatus. Even now I don’t feel compelled to knit every waking moment (Although I don’t have enough time in the day to do everything I want to do.) This is supposed to be enjoyable.
If you hang out at enough yarn shops, flip through enough knitting mags and catalogs, you’ll soon be inspired to pick up those needles again. It’s hard to kick an addiction.
And who needs pitchforks with 14" steel needles?
And you weren’t up!? We’re night owls over here.
I think it’s the weather change, it’s going to be 60 today! I find it hard to work on something warm and cozy when it’s warm outside. And the stress of not being able to find a house. I’m about to start knocking on doors and asking if they are planning on selling or dying soon. How bad is that?
Don’t worry. I have the same happen occasionally. I think I just need a change of pace when that happens, or a rest, maybe? The urge returns and off I go, happily knitting. Unfortunately, I NEVER lose my desire for more patterns and yarn! Hang in there. You’ll be okay. samm
 don’t worry it will come back after Christmas I felt this way too and really didn’t do much till the past 2wks or so… I attended a class for a block of the month and did that in Jan kinda got me back into it…
