No microspun, now what?

I’m going to call my next project the journey tank! I found some yarn for a pattern spur of the moment in Philly, couldn’t resist the colors. It was Gedifra Opulenz but found when I came back to South Jersey it wasn’t the look I was going for. Okay maybe I just liked the yarn  Eager to start I went to joanns, 8 towns away, the closest I have and too eagerly bought the very soft microspun. Now I’m realizing from other people this is would be a big mistake…and now I’m back to square one! Uggh! Does anyone have a good sub for microspun, something good for a tank? The person I’m making it for is allergic to a lot of natural fibers so I guess I’m leaning towards a cotten blend. Do you think Knitpicks Crayon or Shine would work? I’ll do cartwheels if I actually get this done for this summer!!

I liked microspun. Why are people telling you it’s a mistake?

I read a lot of bad things about it here, pilling and splitting what have you and a couple people in another knitting group told me to look into something else as well. I just don’t want to get half way into the project and have it all fraying. Did you have any of these problems?

Microspun tends to split and kind of suck to work with…But if it doesn’t bother you, go for it! Try it before you decide you need to use something else.

It likes to split while I’m knitting with it, but I don’t have any pilling, and I found it very soft and warm. And the softness of the finished project was worth it. To me.

Thank you so much for your responses! Maybe I’ll give it a go and put it on the needles and see what I’m really working with. It seems harder picking yarns than patterns nowadays for me!

Shine worsted IS very nice though!!!

I substituted Plymouth Yarn’s dreambaby dk for a pattern that called for microspun and it’s worked out well. I guess it depends on what color you want b/c dreambaby dk doesn’t have a wide color selection. I’ve never worked w/ microspun…I only substituted b/c I was buying yarn for the pattern from my LYS and they don’t carry Lion brand…

I made these in microspun.

I’m using microspun right now for a tank top, and while I can’t say that it’s been the best yarn to work with, I’m really pleased at how the tank top is turning out. I do have to be careful about the splitting, but it wasn’t really too bad.

How bout this?

Microspun has been known to make you hot too. But if it works for you then use it. Good luck
