Newish knitter who’s confused

I have recently found a knitting pattern that I’d love to do, but I just don’t understand a set of instructions. It’s regarding the ‘design’ on the top. It says to “work 4 long stitches in next stitch” and gives the following explanation: Wind the yarn twice around the needle whilst working each stitch and work four stitches into the same stitch - K1, P1, K1, P1. What does this mean? Totally confused! The pattern is a reworking of an original 1950s knitted lace t-shirt. Many thanks. KatieAnn

Welcome to KH!
Here’s a video for working multiple k1, p1, k1, p1 into the same stitch. The trick is not to let the stitch on the left needle come off until you’ve completed the correct number of increases.

In your pattern you need to wrap the yarn twice around the right needle when you make make each stitch. So insert your right needle into the next stitch on the left needle, wrap the yarn twice around the needle, then bring the yarn forward to work a purl stitch into that same stitch and again wrap the yarn twice around the needle. Then repeat for the next knit and purl before finally dropping the stitch off the left needle. It’ll be a bit bulky but you probably drop the extra wraps in the next row.
What is the name of your pattern?

The pattern is called Buddleia Blouse. It’s free on Ravelry and has been reworked by Retro Claude. I saw her wearing the top on her YouTube post and really wanted to give it a try. Thanks for your help, now off to watch the video you’ve sent me.
