I am starting a pattern for a Newborn’s Cardigan and am a little confused on how many times the pattern wants me to repeat it. The pattern says
BEG SPRINGTIME PATTERN
Join Yarn A
*Row 1 (RS): K2, work row 1 of pat 4 (5,6)times , k to end
Row 2: P across
Rep from * 11 (13, 15) times in all
The springtime pattern is as follows
Pat consists of 10 sts and 2 rows
Row1: K1, YO, k3, slip 1, k2tog, PSSO, k3, YO
Row 2 and all WS rows: P across
The confusion comes b/c when I read rep from *11 times in all does that mean 11 each row so 22 rows in all or 11 period. This is supposed to be the back of a cardigan so I would imagine it would be longer than 11 rows, but maybe I am mistaken, the measurements for the cardigan before the armhole are 4 1/4 (5, 6)"
Any insight would be appreciated! Thanks -Lauren

Well, that seems a little oddly written, but here is my take on it. I think it is saying it to do the following on row 1: K2, work the pattern repeat as given over the 10 stitches 4 (5, 6) times, then knit to the end of the row.
Row 2: Purl
Repeat those 2 rows 11 (13, 15) times in all.
Would that make any sense from looking at your picture? Do you have a link to the pattern? We could be more certain if we could see more of the pattern. How many stitches do you cast on?
well it comes from a book, “Knits for the Modern Baby” by Lena Maikon. Publisher is leisure arts, but I cant seem to find a link to the pattern anywhere online, sorry.
This is a pic of all the projects in the book, the one Im trying to make is the fourth pic of the baby in the yellow hooded cardigan sweater
I interpret it the same way Merigold said. In the larger sizes you need more repeats, cause the child is longer. So small 22 rows, med 26rows, lg 30 rows-worked over the 2 row pattern.
here is a picture attached of my work on this pattern
Thanks ladies! I will continue on to 22 rows total!
Hey, laurebelle, that is looking very pretty. I think you are making the back and I’m hoping that after you K2 and then repeated the 10 st pattern 4 times that you have only 3 sts to knit at the end when it said, “knit to the end of the row”. That would make everything nice and symmetrical.
