I am a new knitter and am planning on knitting a wool soaker for my son. I’d like to order the Peruvian Highland wool from elann, but I’m wondering if it might be too scratchy for a baby. I’m making this http://www.xanga.com/The_1932_soaker_pattern/451989648/item.html btw, and she recommends the peruvian wool, but I just want to make sure before I order. What do you all think?
What is a soaker?
I’m not sure if it would be too scratchy, but I would recommend using superwash wool. That way you won’t have to hand-wash it (since it’ll get washed a LOT ;)). Superwash wool won’t felt in the washing machine.
A soaker is a diaper cover instead of using plastic pants.
I recommend using Lion Brand Jiffy. It’s 100% acrylic. It’s soft & washable.
Acrylic doesn’t absorb the way wool does, so it wouldn’t be a good choice for a soaker.
