Hello!
I am a newbie who has knit a couple scarves and some test swatches. Now I’m trying my hand at this pattern - the “squares” one.

I knit the first four k1 p1 rows as instructed. The border looks like seed stitch to me but the instructions say (k1, p1) for 4 rows, and not p1, k1 on the alternate rows.
Here’s a pic: before I keep going, am I doing this right?

Thank you!
If you’re making the one called Simple Lines (the one on the left in the picture) then the border is supposed to be seed stitch.
Also, it’s kind of hard to tell from the picture of your knitting, since it looks like you’ve only done 1 or 2 rows; but if you’re following the pattern, GREAT!!!
I would recommend to keep going for 5 or 6 more rows to see how it looks after that. If it’s seed stitch, GREAT. If not, then you’d have to start over.
It’s looking good so far though!!!

That is actually 4 rows and I’m confused because it does not look like seed stitch to me. Since I cast on an odd number k1p1 should work when I turn it. However, it doesn’t look anything like the picture and the pattern only calls for 4 rows of k1p1 before moving on in the pattern. I’m pretty sure I did something wrong but not sure what?
I agree with Cindy. It’s a little difficult to tell from the photo of your knitting. It may be that the 4 rows are curled under or is it possibly the way you’ve carried the yarn from knit to purl sts?
This video shows bringing the yarn to the front to purl or to the back to knit by taking the yarn between the needles.
I agree with salmonmac!!! Try a sample like in that video she recommended and practice bringing your yarn between the needles when switching from K to P and vice versa.
You’ll get the hang of it eventually!!

Because I don’t have an account, I can’t see your picture. It’s a really nice pattern.
