Newbie! Pattern translation

Attempting the Sack Boy pattern. But im a bit stuck already!!

Here are the first instructions

Cast on 12 sts with Click for base edge and st st 2
rows.
1st inc row K1, (inc 1) three times, K3, (inc 1) three
times, K2. [18 sts]

So i cast on 12 stitches and stocking stitch 2 rows.

So ive got 12 stitches.
K1 means to knit one stitch…
Inc 1 means increase, so add a stitch…if i add that up i end up with more then 18!

ive knitted before, but this is worded slightly different so a bit rusty…

Nope, you start with 12, you add 6 sts, that’s 18. I think you’re supposed to use kfb for the increase.
k1, kfb, kfb, kfb, k3, kfb, kfb, kfb, k2.

Cast on 12 sts with Click for base edge and st st 2
rows.
1st inc row K1, (inc 1) three times, K3, (inc 1) three
times, K2. [18 sts]

Whithin a row of directions you normally repeat what is in parentheses. the direction of (inc1) means they want you to increase into the stitch or Kf&B - knit the next stitch leaving it on your left needle and knit into the back of the same stitch, which will result in 2 stitches where there once was one.

1st inc row: K1, kf&b, kf&b, kf&b, k3, kf&b, kf&b, kf&b, k2.

this will result in 18 stitches and your ready for next row.

hope this helps

ok, i think i’m with you so far…so what if the instruction is k1 (inc 1, k1) three times?

is that K1, kf&b, K1, kf&b, k1, kf&b, k1?

yes:cheering:
