Newbie on sock knitting-help!

If I understand you question correctly, you want to make sure to slip your stiches purl-wise from one needle to the next.

“being careful not to twist” is important in any circular project. After you cast on, you have to join the stitches into a circle to knit in the round. If the stitches have twisted around the needle at any point and you join them, you’re knitting will be twisted and can’t be fixed.

One way to be sure is to knit a few rows flat and then join, sewing up the little gap that happens with the tail.

It helps to lay the needles out on a flat surface first then pick them up to join.
