Newbie needs help!

Hello! As my subject line states I am new at knitting. I’ve been taking a class and can now cast on, knit, purl, and some combinations of these. I found this beautiful baby blanket I would like to try, but I don’t quite understand the directions and can’t find an email address for the person who wrote it. Can anyone here help me?

Rows 1 and 2 just baffle me… I can handle 3 and 4. LOL Thanks for any help you can give me.

Well I can see why rows 3 and 4 are easy!

This sounds like one of those patterns that you just have to do exactly what they say, step by step.

On row 3, instead of wrapping your yarn once like your normally would, wrap it 3 times and pull all three loops through. Do this for every stitch.

On row 4, it looks like you slip the three extra loops off the needle from the row before, then move the stitch onto the right needle to hold there while you do the same thing 3 more times. When you have 4 big loops on the right needle, you put them on the left and knit, p, k, p into all four at once–don’t slide them off between stitches.

Give it a try and see how it turns out.

Well, I tried what you suggested in a couple attempts and it never quite looked right to me. A good part of that may be that I’m so new at this so I’ll hang on to the pattern and maybe someday I can work it out. I think I’ll stick to something easier for now. Thanks for your help!

Good idea. Compared to the thousands of patterns out there, this is an unusual one. It’s pretty, but there are pretty ones out there that use ‘normal’ stitches. Here is a web site, if you don’t already have it with lots of free patterns.

Thanks! I have seen that one and I also found a few more that have patterns. I’m sure you gals have seen them all, but I’ll share them anyway. BTW…do you all watch Knitty Gritty on TV? I’ve actually learned a bit from watching it.
