Newbie needs help!

Newbie here looking for help. I’m shaping the neckline of a tunic and the pattern states:

Rib 5 then cast off 2, rib 4 then cast off 2, rib 2.

I just can’t get my head around it. I know how to cast off, but in the middle of a row??

Sounds like it’s making strange type of holes maybe to put ribbon through. Have you got picture

Nanny189, yes, an unusual neckline. What is the name of your pattern?

Remember that you need to rib the given number, then knit 2 more to start the bind off.

Hi Salmonmac, it’s a James C Brett JB456, tunic and jacket pattern. I’m making the tunic and realised eventually that it has 3 buttons on the shoulder!:woman_facepalming:
