Newbie needing help!

Heya I’m new here. Just wanted a little help…
I’ve almost completed the front of a hat for my baby, doing stocking stitch. But now I’ve got to a tricky bit cos the pattern has two weird ear/horn type things that you eventually tie together. I don’t know how to decrease stitches but can prob learn by watching an online video. The real thing I’m stumped on tho is all this ‘patt’ business! What does it mean?? I’ll post the rest of my pattern im yet to do here, and perhaps someone could talk me through it? Thanks xxx

Next Row. Patt 11, cast off 20 sts in patt, patt 10.

Working on first 11 sts only proceed as follows:-

Next Row. Patt.

Work 29 rows dec 1 st at beg of 5th and every foll 8th row.

7 sts.

Work 8 rows dec 1 st at beg of 2nd and every foll alt row. 3 sts.

Work 3 rows more without shaping. Cast off in patt.

With ws facing, rejoin yarn to rem 11 sts and patt to end.

Work 29 rows dec 1 st at end of 5th and every foll 8th row.

7sts.

Work 8 rows dec 1 st at end of 2nd and every foll alt row. 3 sts.

Work 3 rows more without shaping. Cast off in patt.

If up to now the hat has all been in stockinette stitch, then that is the pattern it is referring to; ie, as you work those 11 stitches, continue in stockinette stitch.

If the pattern doesn’t tell you which type of decrease to use, k2tog or knit 2 together should be a good one to use. If you go to the glossary tab at the top, scroll down to ‘k2tog’ for a video how to do it.
