Newbie knitter

:waving:

Hi All!

I’ve been lurking around the site for a while and thought it was about time to introduce myself. I LOVE THIS SITE! Thank you Amy for all the wonderful instruction and great videos. I bought one of those “Learn how to Knit this Hat & Scarf” kits 2 years ago. It was incredibly frustrating trying to figure out the illustrations and the kit soon went into the closet.

Well, I bought the Knitting for Dummies book a few months ago and between that and the instructions from the kit I actually did manage to knit the scarf and something that could pass for a headband  ! Well, I was pretty darn proud of that scarf even though one end mysteriously ended up several stitches wider than the other. Not bad for my first attempt and got enough of a feel for it to get “in the zone”

So I knit another scarf with this crazy “eyelash” yarn—boy was that hard to work with, especially for my neophyte self. But I did manage to complete that project and the good thing was the yarn hid my mistakes! The bad thing was that the yarn hid my mistakes so I was still mysteriously adding on extra stitches.

A few weeks ago I was at the fabric store and eavesdropped on a customer asking a knitting question and the employee whipped out her needles and yarn from her pocket and gave us an on the spot demonstration of continental style—she made it look so effortless. So I bought my yarn and first set of circular needles and a Leisure Arts knitting book which demonstrated the continental style. I found this is the technique that really clicks with me. I just find it so much easier and like I can really get a good groove goin’!

I found this site on a google search and the videos on this site have been so helpful and my knitting has now progressed by leaps and bounds. I am now officially hooked! I have now also made a hat and a stethoscope cover and currently working on another scarf for hubby.

So, that’s my long short story. I look forward to getting to know and learn from fellow knitters. Thanks again for such an awesome site Amy!
