Newbie, how to go sleeveless?

Hi everyone,
Have been on on site for many years. Dropped out of sight to pursue my jewelry business. Jewelry biz well on it’s way…I have returned to my love…knitting.

I have a sweater (hourglass pattern), very beautiful bodice! The pattern calls for sleeeves…I have decided to forgo the sleeves and make it into a tank top.

Where do I begin?? How do I figure out to create arm holes and neckline. I have never graphed…but, am willing to try.

Thanks!

Look at the sleeve pattern and how many sts you should have for your size at the top of them, at the underarm. Keep that in mind as you work up to the armholes on the body and bind off the sts for the underarm. On the next round when you come around to the bound off sts, CO the stitch number for the sleeves, work the other body sts and CO the other sts. Then proceed to work the raglan yoke shaping. Many people found the pattern as written to be too low and too wide in the neck, so unless you want the `straps’ falling off your shoulders, continue to knit more rounds with more decreases before you finish off.

If it’s the flared shaping you like, it would be easier to find a regular sleeveless tank pattern, CO for the same sts as the Hourglass, do the shaping and follow the sleeveless pattern for the top. I’m not sure chaning the hourglass is the right pattern for this.
