Newbie here! I really need help with a pattern!

Hi all,

I’ve spent days and days trying to work out this pattern for a square of my Afghan throw that I’m knitting. I have no experience of cable knitting but do understand the basics.

This pattern is a Debbie Bliss one and you cast on 38 sts.

Row 1 (RS) (INC): P3, (K1, inc. once in each of next 2 sts, K1, P3) 5 times (48 sts)

I’m flummoxed - I’ve been writing it down to try and work out how I get 48 sts - indeed how I use up my already cast on 38 sts!

Can a very kind person in very basic language help me understand where I do my increase stitches?

Thank you!:inlove:

You are going to increase once in the next st and then once more in the following st. That will give you 2 new sts. Since you repeat the steps in the parentheses 5 times that give you 10sts increased on this row. You can use a knit front and back for the increase (Kfb) which is on the Free Videos tab at the top of the page, Increases…
So the row will be P3 (K1, Kfb, Kfb, K1, P3) 5 times.

Thank you so much! Will look at the video now! Finally I can get on with this pattern!
