I’m new to this group, but I have been knitting for a while.(Started out English, just recently switched to continental) I have a question. In all of my knitting endeavors, my first and last stitches are really big, and make a sloppy edge. What can I do to fix this?
I’ve found that by giving a little extra tug/pull when I’m doing the first stitch (not slipping it) that it takes up the extra in both the first stitch and the last one on the row below. You can try that, plus knitting the next couple stitches a little tighter and see if that helps. It may also not be so much of a problem as you get more experience.
I am such a loose knitter…my edges are sloppy unless I always slip the firt stitch of every row purwise and always knit the last stitch. (When slipping the first stitch on the knit side…place the working yarn in the front, slip, then move it to the back between the two needles.) I like the chain effect on each side this gives me.
Oh to be a tidy knitter and not have to remember all these tricks…that would be heaven!
