New to this Forum and need help

Hello to everyone.
I’m not a beginner but I am not advanced either.

I have only knitted a couple of scarves but I have a few questions.

I welcome any advice.

My first question is : When you knit your last stitch on the needle which way do you turn your work or does it matter?

#2 What generally causes a hole in your worK? I try to watch my stitches very carefully.

I would really like to try a freindship shawl. I think it is similar to the prayer shawl.

Thank you

Hi, and welcome to the forum. I’m too new myself to have answers, but I did want to say hello!

I’m not sure I understand the question, but just turn the work around so you can start knitting again.

#2 What generally causes a hole in your worK? I try to watch my stitches very carefully.

Holes can be caused by accidental yarnovers, dropped stitches, weird gauge stuff, moving the yarn around the needles instead of between them (when switching b/w k and p) and accidental design features

It doesn’t matter which way you turn your work. You just need to make sure you’re not accidentally wrapping your yarn around your needles & keep your stitches straight.

Different things can cause holes. Most likely, though is an accidental yarn over somewhere.

Good luck w/your knitting!!! :happydance:

Thank you for all the info. I’m sure that I will be back asking questions again.

For future ref, it’ll matter which direction you turn your work IF you’re working with multiple strands. Learning to alternate clockwise and counter-cw will prevent them from tangling. If only one strand, doesn’t matter.

Good point. I wasn’t even thinking about multiple strands.

Newbie2…I deal with that much of the time as I often work with recycled yarns from thrift sweaters that’ve been machined with really thin fibers. I’m always working with several strands. (Just did a piece with 10 strands…3 diff colors!). Crucial to keep them from tangling.
