New to knitting w/ knit question

OK - I am getting really, really frustrated here. After much practice I finally have the long-tail cast on down. Now I am trying (and trying…) to knit my 1st row. It’s a jumbled mess and no matter how many times I watch the video or how much I practice, it looks awful. It doesn’t look anything like the video. I attached a picture to show you what it looks like. :frog:

Can anyone help?

It’s hard to tell from the picture what’s wrong. I’d say try knitting a few more rows and see what it looks like. You really can’t tell anything from the first row. Do you have the same number of stitches that you started with?

I don’t know if I have the same no. of stitches or not. I tried to stitch 10 stitches…but when I went to knit my 1st row, I had 30 to go through. It is like each time I cast on it gives me 3 “loops” to go through when I knit. Am I making sense?

Oh, and I have done 3 more rows and it looks even worse. The part where I am “peeking through the window” and “off jumps Jack” I am working with a huge loop. In the video her needles are so close together… :??

If you’re casting on 10 and are getting 30 loops, you’re making a mistake with the cast on. You should only have one loop per cast on stitch.

If you have trouble casting on while watching the video, maybe this might help. The long tail is near the bottom. The other cast on works fine, too.

TY so much! I figured out what I was doing wrong and now have been able to knit several rows. They look pretty sloppy, but I’ll just keep practicing! :XX:
