New to knitting - and the forum!

Hi all! I’m Kerri and a very beginner knitter - but I’m already obsessed with it.

My question is - I have a hat I’m about to start and it advises to knit with 2 strands of yarn. I’m not so sure I’m quite ready for that so I’m wondering if it will still knit up ok with just one strand. I know it won’t be as thick - but the shape should still be ok, right?

TIA for any advice!

It will be a lot smaller overall.

Knitting with two strands is just like knitting with one. Once you get going, you won’t even notice the difference. Give it a shot!

Thanks for the reply, Ingrid! Do I just unroll all of my yarn and cut it in the middle essentially making two balls of it? I can just see getting myself into all kinds of knots!

You can use the two ends–one from the middle and one from the outside. You might have to hold up the yarn and let it untwist, but it shouldn’t knot.

Or you can use two balls.

Hi Kerri! I’m a fellow obsessed beginner. If I needed to knit double stranded, I’d probably use two different balls of the same yarn. Unless you’ll have plenty of yarn to split one ball up. Be sure to take a picture when you’re done and post it on the “Whatcha’ knittin’” forum. It’s always fun to see everyone’s finished work!
