New Knitter!

Hi!

I started knitting…yesterday! Anyway, I am attempting to knit a baby blanket and here is the pattern I would like to follow:

Cast on 5 sts.
Row 1: Knit.
First (Increase) Half of Throw
Row 2: K3, yo, k2 - 6 sts at the end of this row.
Row 3: K3, yo, k3 - 7 sts at the end of this row.
Row 4: K3, yo, k to end of row - 8 sts at the end of this row.
Rep last row until you have 134 sts on needle.Second (Decrease) Half of Throw
Next Row (Decrease): K2, k2tog, yo, k2tog, k to end of row - 133 sts at the end of this row.
Rep last row until 5 sts remain.
Bind off.

FINISHING
Weave in ends

Here is my question - On row 4 and onward, do I continue to add 8 stitches for each new row until I HAVE 134 Stitches OR do I add a stitch each time i.e. Row 4: K3, yo, K to the end - 9 sts at the end of the row and so on? If you could help me out, that would be wonderful!

Thank you!

Hello, and welcome to knitting.

You cast on 5 and only add one stitch on each row. The number after the - tells you how many stitches you have when you complete the row.

After completing row 2 you have 6, after row 3 you have 7, and after row 4 you have 8 stitches.

Row 4 is what you repeat. K3, yo, knit to the end of the row.

The yarn over at the beginning of each row creates one new stitch. So after row 5 you’ll 9, after row 6 you’ll have 10, etc.

Omg thank you so much! LOL I have been adding more stitches every row. So far I have a very long string! :muah: B]

You’re welcome. It will take quite a bit of knitting to get to 134 stitches, but then the second side gets smaller with each row so you begin to feel like the end will eventually be reached.

I defintely might be back when I get to the second half! This is the most addicting and frustrating activity!
