New knitter needs help reading a pattern

I’ve been knitting for a bit more then a year now and I am lusting after the Hashtag Camisole in the Spring 2013 issue of Interweave Knits. I’ve never tackled a pattern with parenthesis & brackets so I’m feeling like I’m in my algebra class. Here is the pattern part in question:

P2tog, p1, p2tog,[p3(4,5,3,4,), p2tog] 20 (18, 17, 28, 25) times, p1 (5,3,1,1), [p2tog,p3(4,5,3,4)] 20 (18, 17, 28, 25) times, p2tog, p1, p2tog - 176 (200, 220, 240, 266) sts rem.

I am knitting the largest size. One the first line do p2tog, p1, p2tog then p4, p2tog 25 times, or do I p4 and then p2tog 20 times?

Second set of brackets: Do I p2tog, p4 25 times? I’m not sure what I’m supposed to repeat and when.

I think I may be overthinking this, but I’m clueless on how to tink p2tog’s and lacework so I want to make sure I know what I’m doing.

Thanks in advance!

It is kind of like algebra.

The final number in the brackets is for your size and that’s what you use. It helps to highlight the number fpr your size so you don’t do a different one by mistake.

P2tog, p1, p2tog,[p3(4,5,3,4,), p2tog] 20 (18, 17, 28, 25) times

You’ll p2tog, p1, p2tog,then (p4, p2tog) 25 times
