Hi all … I am a reasonably new knitter and have been doing ok so far till I came across this in my pattern and I am a tad confused by it.
Beginning with a purl row, work 3[5:5:9] rows in stst.
Work two rows, dec 1 st at neck edge on both rows. (9[10:11:12]sts)
The bold line is what I am confused with. If anyone could please clarify if I knit a row then a purl row and decrease 1 stitch at which end?
Thank you in advance
Do you know which edge of your project is the neck edge? You’ll decrease a stitch at that same edge on both of those rows you bolded.
Well that’s why I am confused cos the piece I have knitted is the back of a cardigan so the edges would be where the shoulders will connect after.
How many stitches have you got now? I’ve never knitted a cardigan or jumper but it seems like it’s making it a bit asymmetrical this way, and that doesn’t make sense unless it’s really meant to be both edges.

There are 66 stitches. I am continuing on with other panels etc at the moment till I need to sew them all together and then I will re-assess these instructions haha. Thank you for trying to help, really appreciate it
You’re welcome, let us know if you got it sorted out in the end!
What is the name of your pattern?
I agree with Shintoga that there’s something not making sense. Is there a section where the back was divided for the neck or is that section missing?
