New-ish knitter needs help!

Hi friends! My name is Jennifer and I live in the Kansas City area. I am a new-ish knitter without about a year under my belt, and I need some help with two patterns…well, kind of.

One - did anyone watch Grace & Frankie on Netflix? Frankie knitted a shawl for Brianna. It looks like it is probably pretty simple, but the woman who knitted it for the show (I actually tracked her down!) doesn’t have the pattern anymore. Can anyone point me to a similar pattern or give me any tips to get started? I’ve only ever knitted hats and scarves/cowls…totally new to a shawl or poncho!

Two - I am trying to self-teach cables (it’s so hard!) and I love this scarf I saw on Instagram. There is no pattern. I think I have deciphered it (is it K6 for edge, P1, K8, C6B, K8, C6F, K8, P1, K6 for edge?)

Thank you so much for helping me!

Nope, never.

So, was the shawl used as a Xmas tree skirt??

Ravelry is a handy website (free) for finding patterns.
I found a couple of tree skirts you could adapt.

This one is knit in a different direction to the photo you gave but it depends how close you want to copy or if you just fancy something similar.

The next one is knitted in the the colour stripes and correct direction

(Looks like the patterns in this magazine are now available free)

This one is garter stitch but you could change that to stocking stitch. The shawl you posted has a detail every few 4 inches or so, someone might be able tontell you what that detail is so you could add it in.

Or you could look for circular shawl patterns.

Can’t help with the cable. Im sure some one else can help.

Welcome to the forum!
Maybe this is similar to the capelet in your photo? It’s knit side to side with the possibility of modifying the neck.

For the cable, you seem to be close. There’s some number of sts (7?) then perhaps a purl, knit 9, C6B, C6F (the horseshoe cable), knit 9, purl 1, knit 7. It’s a very pretty pattern and the horseshoe is a favorite. The number of sts at the edges can vary as you wish but the cables are adjacent. Lovely.
