I have knitted in the past but am a little rusty-practicing though–My son wants me to make him a Dr. Who scarf so what size needles should I use and what kind. The other thing is I try not to use wool yarn because it makes me itch. I actually bought worsted #4. Any tips on knitting this scarf or just knitting in general would be very appreciated.
Thanks
What size needle depends on your own gauge, how tight you knit, and what you want the fabric to look like. I suggest starting witht a US 8 and see how it looks. If you think it’s looser than you want go down to a 7 or if it’s tight go up to a 9.
I greatly admire your willingness to knit anyone a Dr. Who scarf. Just to check: you know that the shortest one worn on the TV series was 9 feet long and the longest was 26 feet? (http://wittylittleknitter.com/relative-scarf-lengths/)
and perhaps 10 to 14 inches wide? (same site)
Best wishes…
I told my DH that, if he wanted a Dr. Who scarf, I’d be happy to show him how to do the knit stitch. He could buy the yarn. Then I would provide support. I would:
–cast on for him,
–change colors for him, and
–cast off.
:roflhard:
AH HA!!! You’ve solved my problem! My 15 yr old(she of the needle in the butt problem) already knows how to do all of the above except change colors!! I don’t have to knit that silly thing for her!! :notworthy:
Thank you!! Lol

Everyone need a reality check now and then. I hope this one doesn’t bounce.
I have research the “who” scarf and I am looking forward to making it. I just hope I become as good a knitted as I am a crocheter.
Love to see photos of your progress on the Dr. Who. You’ll certainly be an expert by the time you’re finished!
After you have finished the scarf - did you know that there is a knitting pattern for a dalek at
