Hi, I just learned how to knit about a month and a half ago when my aunt taught me. She gave me 12 in. needles, pink yarn and a how to book. lol But I’m just about to finish my first project, a simple scarf, and it seems like it has taken me forever to finish! I talked to a friend the other day and she said my needles were way too small. So I was wondering if I used bigger needles, would it take less time/be easier? Thanks for taking time to answer my (sort of) silly question!
Needles Size...very new knitter!
well it can but you have to remember that bigger needles require more yarn to make a stitch. i would guess if she is an experienced knitter she probably gave you the right needles for the gauge of the yarn but if you are making a scarf it doesn’t need to “fit” per se. I like making scarves with big needles for two reasons…they tend to bore me so i want to finish them quickly so as to move on to the next one and i like the look of big chunky scarves and/or holey scarves.
what size needles did she give you and what kind of yarn?
Needles come in many sizes from the teeny tiny to the super chunky. The smaller the needle, the smaller the stitch, simply put.
Thank you so much!! I’m going to get bigger needles today!!
