I have a Noro pattern for a sweater. It says the pattern “requires one pair of size 7 needles”. The needles I have are 9 inches long. The pattern calls to cast on 72 stitches and the yarn is heavy enough that 72 stitches won’t fit on my needles - I was able to cast on 50 only.
I’m not sure what to do next - do I buy a pair of longer needles? Thanks for any thoughts.
I think circular needles might be a good option - it’s easier to have a large amount of stitches on those and there’s generally less worry of stitches slipping off the end of a needle!
Thank you, Shintoga, what is the best way to determine what size circular needle to purchase?
Longer is better, in general - you can use circulars for flat knitting too, but if you’re knitting in the round and don’t have enough stitches to fill the cable, there’s a way round that, called magic loop. Not everyone likes the method, but it’s there!
You can get sets with interchangeable tips/cables but to start out with, I’d suggest a single circular. They are measured from tip to tip, so it would be a good idea to decide on what you’d consider a useful length, then look for that length in the needle size you need. It’s better to choose a needle on the longer side if you can’t find the exact length you wanted.
Thank you very much! I really appreciate this forum and your help!
No problem, I hope you find what you need!
