Needle Gauge?

I’m wondering about something I saw somewhere on the Net. Someone said that circs wouldn’t show a true size on the Boye plastic rule with the Needle sizer, nor would the Susan Bates give true size for the needles in circular sets. I think they said there was an Addie Turbo gauge ( haven’t even checked to see if there IS one!!) is the right one for measuring the sizes of your circs!! Anyone?? :XX:

The addi turbo one is the ‘tightest’ - I actually have about five different gauges that I use when I get in needles, but I must admit that I use the Susan Bates as my 'normal’est gauge since most people have that.

Did I make any sense!?

This is my favorite needle gauge. I got it for Christmas and I love it especially for my Addi’s that don’t have their info on the cord anymore. I have the Susan Bates Knit Chek, some cheap plastic needle gauge that came in a kit, and the Nancy’s Knit Knacks gauge. I like the NKK gauge the best because it’s like a one stop shop.

Here’s something to be aware of.

Last month I bought 3 differents size 16" circular needles at my LYS to do a lined hat and and when I reached the point where I had to change to DP needles, I checked them both on my needle guage. The lining needles were the same.

HOWEVER, when I checked the size 5 needles for the outside,
one side of the circular needle was a 4 and the other side a 6!
That stopped my project 'til I could get back to the store. She opened three packages before she found one assembled correctly.
The brand is Inox. I actually found them really nice to knit with.

Also, I bought a set of Susan Bates size 5 DP needles (somewhere else) that are actually a size 4.
And my needle gauge is by Susan Bates! :??

Oh my god. You’ve got to be kidding me. Not only are some of the smaller sizes different depending on who the manufacturer is (which I read about in another thread), but the needle gauges aren’t all the freakin’ same???

(holding hands over ears) LA LA LA LA LA, LA LA LA LA… I cannot hear you! I’m going to go on in my happy little world pretending that needles are all labeled the same and needle gauges happily tell you the needle size. LA LA LA!

hehee, yeah, there are many differences - we need to be more like E Zimmerman and just knit away not worrying to much about what the needles say but how the guage swatch comes out!

measuring needles IS the biggest pain doing my site
