Needing a cabled mitten pattern

I want to make my mom some mittens. She even bought me yarn to do it but I want to make something beyond just plain old flat mittens sewed up. I would rather make pretty cabled one.

I’ve been searching the net but found mostly cabled fingerless gloves-totally not what I need here.

I found one mitten cable pattern off woman’s day site but the pattern made no sense to me. :??

Any help you guys can give would be LOVED!

These are kind of cool: cable cuff mittens

I saw this mitten at my LYS, made without the beads.
Haven’t decided if I’ll make mine with or without the beads…

The Beaded Cable Mitten

I started reading this pattern and when it said “provisional cast on” and “3 needle bind off” I stopped reading. I haven’t the foggiest what those are. I only know one way to cast on and one way to bind off.

I haven’t done a provisional cast-on yet, either, but here’s some help:

And Amy has a video for the three needle bind-off (scroll down). It sounds worse than it is…it’s actually pretty simple. I’d choose the three needle bind-off over sewing a seam any day!

I’d say if you like the pattern, go for it! You can always get help here at KH in the “How-to Questions” forum.
