Hi. Does anyone know how to convert straight needle patterns to circular? If my “odd” row says to purl on straight needles, do I knit on my circles?

If you are knitting one row and purling the next when knitting flat (stockinette) you just knit only when knitting in the round. Is that what you needed to know?

Yes, if the row is all purls, you just knit it.

some basic rules.
NO seams, so you might want to decrease count by 4 (not an issue with fine yarns, but could be with bulky)since 4 stitches are ‘lost’ in seaming)

This is especially important for ribbing… (may times, ribbing start and end with K2 (which logically means 4 knits in a row…but if 2 knits get lost in seam, you have a lovely side seam with 2 knits.(one from each part, with seam in middle) ----but if you don’t decrease you could have a dorky 4 knits (breaking K2/P2 pattern)

2–alternate rows… these change from Purl to knit (stocking knit, and many lace patterns)
but from KNIT to purl (for garter or any pattern that has purl bumps on front (basket weave!)

3–if you want ‘phony seams’ (i never do!) don’t forget to increase1 after ribbing to create.

4 if you are knitting in a pattern, you might want to decrease (or increase) to have full pattern repeats at the side.

Hi,
I’m new here and picking up knitting again after many, many years. Can someone please explain the following to me. The pattern is for a Diamond Pattern Throw. It says it is for beginners. This is what I need explained: “Work in seed st for 10 rows. Keeping 8 sts on each edge in seed st as est.” There is more but I figure I’ll ask again when I finish my 10 rows. That part I got, I just don’t understand the part about keeping 8 sts on each edge in seed st as est. I don’t know how else to explain. Thanks for anything you can offer.

Begin and end your rows with the 8 sts in seed stitch. If you’re not sure how to start, knit what look like purl sts and purl what look like purl sts at the beginning of the row, work the diamond pattern until you have 8 sts left and do the same - purl the knits and knit the purls.
