Need to adjust a pattern. Help, please!

The pattern calls for CO44, but for my head I need to CO 48. So what do I change/where do I add 4 more st in each row?

Size 17 needles
Original pattern:
CO 44
Rows 1-18: K1, P1 (got that part-I don’t know how to

Decrease as follows:
R1: *(k1, p1) 6 times. sl1, k2tog, psso, p1, k1, p1, sl1, k2tog, psso, p1, repeat from *
R2: (k1, p1) twice, sl1, k2tog, psso, p1,(k1, p1)5 times, rep fr.
R3: *(Sl1, k2tog, psso, p1, k1, p1) twice, (k1,p1) twice, rep from *
R4 and R5: k2tog across. (6 st. remain after Row 5)
Cut yarn, pull tail thru remaining stitches and tighten.

Thanks in advance!

Couldn’t you use the next size needle to get the measurement you need for your head? The dec section is set up to be done over 22 sts twice, to begin with - that would be the 44 sts. To work with 48 sts, you would put in an extra k1, p1 at the beginning of row 1 and in the repeat. For the other rows, you’d have to wing it and see where the extra sts would go. It might work, though you’ll end up with 7 sts, not 6 when you’re done. I think.

You mean switch to a 19? I don’t know if I can work with a needle that large! Hmm.

As for ‘winging it’, uh, I’m not good enough to wing much. I think I’l run over to my LYS where I got the pattern and let them tell me/show me how to adjust and where. I’m not a confident knitter yet, so after R1, uh, I have no clue as to where the extra stiches would go!

Thank you for your input!!! Would you like to have an all-expense paid trip to Louisiana for a few days to show me how to knit stuff?
The food is GREAT! And it doesn’t get cold! Let me know!

It may not get cold there, but you get hurricanes and such…

I can’t visualize what you’d do after R 1 either, I’d have to eyeball it and see where to put the extra stitches. Hopefully your lys will have some ideas.

The hurricanes are usually a ways away from us-we’re a couple of hours from the actual coast. And we DO have the greatest football ever…
