Need reassurance on newborn cardi pattern

I’m putting together a pattern for myself – I wanted a top-down raglan newborn cardi that I could use as a blank slate to decorate, as I seem to have an awful lot of babies to knit for these days. Soooo… do newborns REALLY have 6.5" arm length from underarm to wrist? It seems so long compared to the rest of the cardi! (6.5" to waist from neck)

Yeah, that’s what they all say…it just seems so long! :slight_smile:

Babies have somewhat long arms and legs in proportion to their bodies, and a lot of baby patterns may have short shoulder to waist lengths. I figure a 6 mo size at about 20 inches around and 10 inches long with sleeves about 7" or so.

Sheesh. No wonder almost every parent I know calls their baby a little monkey! :wink:

Sometimes I visit Walmart with a ruler in my purse and measure various baby items. :wink: It really helps.

Yep, I took a tape measure to the baby department to confirm the pattern’s sizes.
