Need pattern help please! Lion brand bunny blanket buddy

Hoping someone can help me here, please.

This is the pattern I am using- according to the website, there are no corrections for it. However, when I get to making the head, the directions just don’t make sense to me! Particularly the end, where it says:

FINISHING
Cut a 10in [25.5 cm] length of yarn. With large-eyed blunt needle, thread yarn through every other st on needle, then back through remaining sts. Remove knitting needle and stuff Head. Pull yarn tightly to close top of Head and secure.

Just before this, I have a rectangular section for the head- with the two ears on either side of the top, and the 12 stitches in between the ears are the ones referred to in the above directions. I can thread yarn through them, but they are in a straight line between the ears, so pulling the yarn tightly does NOT create an enclosure in which to place the stuffing. I had to make basically a tube out of the rectangular head by pulling the two sides of the rectangle together, stitching them together, then stitch the top and bottom of the rectangle closed in order to make anything resembling the picture, and it still looks different.

Anyway, if anyone can offer any insight as to what I might be missing… I’d be happy to post a picture tomorrow when I can get to my camera, or try to clarify my question if I’m not making any sense. I would probably forget about it, but I have to make 2 of these things and I’d like at least one of them to come out right! :stuck_out_tongue:

THANKS!
Carey

You should have ended up with a tube by making the p1, slip 1 stitches correctly, then the head is hollow. If you go through every other stitch on the top, half should be the front and half should be the back… unfortunately, I don’t have one of these going right now (for once…) to get you a picture

WOW, I did not come up with a tube at all! Clearly I did something seriously wrong…

Do you think youcould try to explain for me the p1s1 section so I can figure out how it makes a tube? I just knit back and forth slipping every other stitch instead of purling it, and ended up with a really solid fabric, but still a flat rectangle. :stuck_out_tongue:

These rows form a tube that’s closed on the bottom -

Row 63 Knit into front and back of each st across row – 28 sts.
Row 64 *P 1, sl 1, rep from * across row.
Rep Row 64 until Head measures 3½in

You double the stitch count, but since you slip every other stitch, you’re effectively working on one side at a time. This is called double knitting because you’re making a piece that’s got 2 purl sides.

Wow, OK, it sounds like I’m a big dork… I’m guessing that I did have a tube, but somehow didn’t notice it! DUH! OK, I’m going to take the head apart when I get home and see if I can fix it. Thanks for your help!!
