I will be teaching a group of third - sixth graders to knit while their parents are in an evening parenting class at my church/school. I need ideas for a name for this group of “knotty kids”. I want to use “knotty kids” in the announcement for the class but whould rather have a more positive actual name. I am hoping we can continue as an after school activity and that the name would be catchy and be have “staying power” for long term.
I know I can count on y’all to come up with some names that will have us all it stitches
Somehow all the “little” connotations seem maybe a little to young for the older kids in the group? How about Hip to Knit or Hip Knits or something with the church or school name? I liked fiber fun too or maybe “fun with fiber”. Or maybe something like Stitch and Bitch except without the bitch part. Like something and gripe or something and vent?
What a fun project! Have you ever taught kids before?

I just ordered 25 pair of #10, 10" bamboo needles from Smiley’s … and well and a little bit of yarn …
Teachers at our school “donate” themselves for our fundraising silent auction. This year I donated 3 one hour knitting lessons and a bag with all the supplies and the book “Kids Knitting” by Melanie Flaick. It is a great book and the 5th grader who “won” the lessons took right to knitting and is doing great. In the weeks before the auction, I “advertised” by bringing in my needles and projects and yarn. I read knitting and yarn and sheep books to every class! ( I am the school librarian and computer teacher)
I have also knitted some with my 5 yr old granddaughter. She likes to bring the yarn around for me. Teaching a group will be a new experience. I will pair a younger and an older for the “lesson part” then the olders can knit and visit and I will help the youngers. I will do a short Bible Study the last 15 minutes, but the kids will continue working on their knitting. (they will LOVE not having to stop what they are doing to listen) There is another teacher who knits, or I could even get one who doesn’t if we need another adult. I am hoping for about 12-14 kids.
There are several school sites that tell about their knitting clubs. After reading those made a a supply list, proceedure and very loose Week 1-6 lesson plans. I will be glad to share … but don’t want to impose the “churchyness” of it onto anyone
