Knit 2, bring the yarn forward between the needles, knit 2 (this will create a YO which is an increase - an extra stitch. Now take that YO and bring over the two knit stitches on your right needle and drop it off the needle. This decreases that extra stitch so your stitch count is the same and it creates a design feature of some kind.
