Need help

I am a new knitter. Making cardigan sweater size 2 from Designs by Louise (Newport Cardigan). I am trying to figure out how to pick up and knit armhold stitches to start sleeve. Thanks for any help. Need very clear instructions.

If the stitches are on a holder or waste yarn put them on the needle(s) and then use the info on picking up to pick up the ones under the arm if that’s how it’s done in your pattern. Some patterns cast on stitches at the under arm and leave a gap to be seamed up later.
