Need help with Universal Yarn Pattern: LILLY

Hi all…first time posting here and I hope someone can help me

I’m making the pattern found here, size 18mths. I’ve bolded the number of sts I cast on, etc…

The part I’m having trouble with is at the neck shaping for the front. I’ve highlighted it. The way I’m doing it, i end up with 15 sts. instead of 11. Either I’m stupid or the pattern is wrong. I bound of the 5 sts at beginning of row, (knit), then bound off 2 sts at end of purl row, and again 2 sts at beg of next row. I’m doing the left front btw. Then I dec 1 st at neck edge like the pattern reads.

Pattern reads as follows:

Front make two, [reversing shaping]
With CC and smaller needles, cast on 28 (30, [B]33[/B]) sts.
Work 8 rows in garter st [1"]. With MC, work as for back, including
all shaping, and, at the same time, when piece meas 8.5 (9.5, [B]9.75[/B])"
[approx. 6 (64, [B]66[/B]) rows].

Begin Neck Shaping:

[B]At neck edge, bind off 4 (5, [B]5[/B]) sts. Bind off 2 sts at neck edge 2 times. Dec 1 st at neck edge, every other row 3 (3, [B]4[/B]) times. There should be 10 (10, [B]11[/B]) sts rem [/B]for shoulder. Cont in st st until piece meas 10 (11, 11.75)" [approx. 68 (76, [B]82[/B]) rows]. Work shoulder as for back.

Any help would greatly be appreciated.

Did you remember to do the shaping from the back?

Yes, the back armhole shaping at 6.75" will decrease the total number of sts to 15. You need to shape the armhole at each front. But the pattern still doesn’t make sense and no wonder you were confused. The cast on is 33 for the front minus 5 for the armhole and then 13 for the neck shaping and you get 15sts, not 11.
You could write to Universal Yarn or you could try to work in some extra decreases in the neck, say bind off 3sts twice instead of 2sts and then extend the rows with 1 decrease for 2 more rows. Ending with 11sts would match the back shoulder.

yes i did the back shaping…binding off 5 sts for underarm, and then cont in st st until the neck shaping. 28 sts - 5 st - 8 st is still 15…I think i’ll email them…

Yup, 15sts. I couldn’t find any errata online. Let us know what they say if you have a chance, please?
