Need help with Right front border of cardigan Rib 5, cast on 2 sts

Hi,

I am knitting a cardigan and just need a bit of clarification when it comes to the right front border.

I have completed a row whereby I Rib 4, cast off 2sts, (rib 8, cast off 2 sts) 3 times, rib 4.
The next row is then telling me to Rib 5, cast on 2 sts, (rib 9, cast on 2 sts) 3 times, rib 4.

My row starts with a knit stitch and I would like to know how best to go about casting on the extra 2 stitches each time.

I know how to increase a stitch in either a knit row or purl row, however, as the row is rib, it is throwing me off slightly.

Any help would be much appreciated!

Thanks in advance

Sarah

You won’t be using an increase to add these sts, but a cast on which is what makes the buttonhole. Work the 5 rib sts, then move the R needle to the L hand, knit into the first st except leave the st on the needle and put the new st on the needle too. Repeat, then move the needle back to the R hand and work the rest of the sts.

Thanks suzeeq, thats exactly what I needed to know
