Need Help with Pattern

I am new to this forum and look forward to learning from you experts. I purchased a hat book and would like to make a hat using faux cables. Pattern calls for 3-st RT: K3tog without slipping sts from LH needle, yo, k first st on LH needle once more, drop 3 sts just worked from LH needle. I don’t understand the “once more” or the drop 3 sts just worked from LH needle. I have looked everywhere for a video or some instruction and can’t find it. I also emailed the book web site but have not heard from them. Can someone explain this stitch in detail? I know what the K3 tog and not slipping stitches means. I know what the YO is and also knitting the first stitch. After that, I am lost. Knit once more sounds like a “repeat”, but repeat what I don’t know or even it is a repeat. I don’t understand what the “drop” means. I am missing something (quite a bit I think) and would appreciate some help.

Thanks, Pat

Hi and welcome to KH. You can get a pencil and mark through “once more” if you want. After you do the yo and knit the first stitch, slide the 3 stitches off the left needle and you’re done with them. You’ll get used to reading things like this, be sure to ask about anything else that isn’t clear. If you’d like to post a picture of your hat, we’d love to see. Happy :knitting: knitting!

Welcome to KH!
Yes, that’s a good way to think about this stitch.
This video is not quite what you’re doing but similar. K3tog, yo and then instead of k3tog again as in the video, you only want to knit into stitch one, nearest the tip of the left needle. You’ll have 3 new sts on the right needle and you can then drop the sts off the left needle.

Thanks for your help.

I would like to thank those who responded to my inquiry and helped me with my problem. Finally got the hat going and it looks pretty good (so far). Thanks again.

That’s terrific news! Hope all continues well too and if it doesn’t, please come back and ask. We’d love to see a photo when you finish if you’d like to post one.
