Need help with pattern

I am trying to make some overalls and I’m stuck on one section. The main pattern is a seed st stripe pat that goes 2 rows color A, 2 rows MC and 2 rows color B. The part I’m stuck on says, “Keeping cont of pat, dec 1 st at each end of next (which is color B) and every following 6th row until there are 53 sts. Cont even in pat until work from markers measures approx 7 3/4 ins, ending on a 5th row of pat.” I have 2 questions. When it talks about every 6th row, do I count the row that I did the first dec as row 1? Also, when it says 5th row of pat, does it mean the original pat? I would really appreciate some help on this. Thank you in advance.

When it says every 6th row-- that means that you would work the decreas row, then knit 5 rows, then decrease again, and continue.

You then knit 7 3/4 inches and stop when you get to the 5th row of the pattern repeat. You might have to go maybe a 1/4 inch more or less to end up on the 5th row of pattern, but that’s fine.

Does that help?

That helps. Thank you.
