Need help with pattern instructions

Hi All:

I downloaded a vintage pattern and having trouble understanding how to knit the following:

(P1,pull out 2nd st on left handed needle to back of work and k,then k 1st st dropping sts off needle,P1) to end

Not sure what they mean by pull out 2nds st not sure which st they want me to knit, the one that is pulled to the back or the next one in the row. Also even if I got this part which st do I drop ofthe needle. When viewing the pattern picture it appears that this pattern looks like a ribbing.

when i attempt to follow this pattern i lose stitches and none of the other pattern rows allow for increases.

Any ideas?

This sounds like a kind of ribbing. I think what is saying is to *purl 1 then knit the second stitch from the end of the left hand needle through the back without taking anything off the left needle, then knit the stitch at the beginning of the left hand needle (the one you skipped), then let the two stitches come off the left hand needle. Repeat from the * across the row.

This will make very miniture cables which are like the knit st of the ribbing, and purl stitches between them for the purl st of the ribbing.

That’s it. You are right it is a form of ribbing. I tried working the pattern using your directions and it works. The thing I was doing wrong was not going into the second stiitch on the left hand needle. You made my day. Thanks, Biscotti.

Good! I’m glad I could help. I see you are new here to KnittingHelp. Welcome and happy knitting.
