Need help with neck shaping

I’m working on a sweater using the Ryuu-Ko pattern from Petite Purls(I cannot post a link because this is my first post) and am having trouble with the neck shaping. This is my first sweater ever.

Here is where I get lost:
“Row 1 (raglan decrease row): Work a decrease rnd until you come to the center front sts on the waste yarn. Remove these sts from the needle. With a scrap of MC, knit across to last 2 sts, ssk. Slip sts from right front neck back to left needle.
You will now work back and forth on the needle beginning at the left front neck with the main body yarn.”

Okay, I get the raglan decrease, of course, but once it says “remove these sts from the needle, knit across, slip sts from right front neck back to the left needle…” I don’t know what that means? Someone had told me before that it meant to knit it flat, which I guess makes sense, but what about the rest of the work?

I need a really detailed explanation if anyone can help. Thanks so much for those of you who do respond. I’ve been stuck for several days, haha.

Yes, you knit the sts flat. I think that should read - “until you come to the center front sts on the waste yarn. Remove these sts from the waste yarn” instead of from the needle.

Then using some MC, knit to the last 2 sts and dec, then put the sts on the R front onto the L needle.

Yes, this part of the sweater is going to be knit flat so you’ll be turning it to knit back and forth from L front around to the R front and then back again. The center sts stay on the waste yarn until you knit them for the neck shaping further down in the pattern.
For some reason you put the waste yarn through the center neck sts and leave them on the needle until you knit around to those sts again. Then slip them off the needle. Now you have a gap between the working yarn and the R front sts.
Your workng yarn is on the end of the R needle so you’ll use a small piece of scrap yarn of the main color to knit the R neck sts onto the R needle.
Now slip the sts knit with scrap yarn back to the L needle.
Your working yarn end is at the end of the R needle and here’s where you turn the work and begin working flat along the sts of the L front, sleeve, back, sleeve and R front. Turn and continue on these sts for the rest of the directions until the back neck shaping directions.

So I slip the sts on the waste yarn off the needle, knit the left front neck up to the “ssk”, then slip those sts I just knit back onto the left needle? And now I’m supposed to turn it around and knit the other way so that it’s knit flat, right? So what am I supposed to do with the sts on the waste yarn?

Yes, you’ve got it. Slip the sts knit on the MC scrap back to the L needle, turn and knit flat. The sts on the waste yarn sit there until you get to the diretions for
"Neck Shaping:… pick up sts evenly along left front neck edge, knit across sts on front neck waste yarn, pick up sts evenly along right front neck edge, …"
Good luck with this very handsome sweater!

Leave the sts on the waste yarn, I was mistaken about that. You’ll work those in the neckband at the end. But otherwise you have it correct.

Okay, thanks so much! My little brother is going to LOVE this sweater!
