Need help with my first hat

Help Please:?? I am knitting my first hat. So far, I have finished knitting 1 1/2" ribbing w/size 6 needles. Then the pattern read: change to larger size (8) circular needle and repeat rounds:
R1: P1, (K1,P1) around.
R2: K1, (P1, K1) around.
I changed to larger needles and finished two rows R1 and R2. As I was getting ready to start R1 again I noticed that I would have a “hole” actually it looks like if I continued I would end up having to sew up a seam in the hat which is not what i want. My ribbing is joined so I am not sure what happened when I changed to the larger needles. I have taken one row out and am back to where I would start R2.
My question- Should I have joined again the beg and end after I changed to the larger needles? I changed to the larger needles by starting to knit R1: onto the larger needles. So that is where I am now I have R1 on my size 8 needles ready to do R2.:help:

If the hat is knit in the round then it should be just knitting in a circle ALL the time. It sounds like you started knitting it flat?

What pattern is it…do you have a link or at least a name?

The pattern is called Casual Comfort from the booklet “Celebrity Slouchy Beanies for the family”- Leisure Arts

Well I am back on track. :?? I guess I did start knitting flat-not sure how I did that, but then again- I find myself wondering how I get myself int the prediciments (sp?) :teehee: I have been in with my knitting. I am becoming an expert frogger.

Thank you Jan for your quick response. I may be back here again, I have quite a ways to go and towards the end I need to switch to double -points-another new one for me.
