Need help with joining pieces of sweater together

Hi,

I’m knitting the Garter Stitch Matinee Jacket from Debbie Bliss’ Cashmerino 2 book and am not quite sure how to join all of the pieces.

The pattern says:
[B]To Make Up:[/B]
[B]Left Shoulder:[/B] [B]Place sts on two needles with points facing the cuff edge, then with wrong sides facing, knitting one st from each needle together, cast off 22 sts.[/B]
How do I knit 2 stitches together from 2 needles? Do I need to use my ball of yarn for this or do I just use the stitches somehow?

Then, it says to join the underarm seams, but it doesn’t say how to join them. Does anyone have a link with directions on how to join?

Ugh, this is supposed to be an easy pattern and I’ve had trouble with a few parts. I’ve only knitted one sweater before and it wasn’t this difficult.

It’s a 3 needle bind off. You put the RSs together, WS to the outside and use a third needle to BO. There’s a video on the Tips page under Finishing. To join the underarm seams, use the Mattress stitch found on the same page.
