It’s like a M1 increase only you don’t knit into the back the way you do in a proper M1. Look at the video on the Increases section of Basic Techniques. Knit 3, lift the yarn between the stitches and knit into it, then k1 and repeat.
Okay, THAT makes sense but I’m still confused about what they are speaking about “both the left and right needles”? I think I’ll just work with what you explained and see what happens. Heck, it is only a dishrag… if I doesn’t work out the same…oh well, but it is puzzling me.
When you do a M1 inc you lift the strand of yarn between your stitches, some of which are on the left needle and some on the right needle. But in the regular M1, you knit through the back of the stitch to twist it so it doesn’t make a hole. The pattern wants you to knit into the front without the twist so it leaves a hole.
